New Delhi: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday conducted a significant operation against terror funding, conducting raids across five states, including Jammu and Kashmir and Maharashtra. Nearly 22 locations were targeted in this operation.
During the raids, the NIA detained four people suspected of having links to the terrorist organisation Jaish-e-Mohammed. Among the detained, two suspects were apprehended in Jalna district, one in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and another in Malegaon.
NIA raids in 5 states
In Jammu and Kashmir, the NIA’s operations were focused on Baramulla, where authorities sought to investigate recent terrorist incidents. The agency also conducted simultaneous raids in the national capital, Delhi, as well as in Uttar Pradesh and Assam. This widespread action aims to disrupt any networks involved in financing anti-national activities, particularly those associated with Jaish-e-Mohammed.
This operation comes at a critical time, as assembly elections in Maharashtra are approaching later this year. The four suspects in custody are being thoroughly questioned by the NIA.
Raids in Maharashtra, Gujarat on June 28
Earlier this year, the NIA conducted similar raids in Maharashtra and Gujarat on June 28, targeting people involved in 2021 Visakhapatnam Pakistani ISI espionage case. During that operation, NIA officials seized mobile devices and important documents from suspects.
As the assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir have already been held, attention is now focused on the results, which are set to be announced on October 8.
