New Delhi: A poster of Mughal emperor that was put up by some unidentified men led to tensions in Belagavi district of Karnataka. The banner was found hanging in Shahu Nagar area of the district. The banner read, “Celebrating Sultan-e Hind, The Real Founder of Akhand Bharat..Aurangzeb Alamgir..The Mughal King”.
The banner was put up on the occasion of Aurangzeb’s birth anniversary. Police have now removed the banner amid protest by locals and increased the security in the area. Local residents have sought action against those who put up the banner.

Following the removal of the banner, members of a particular community took to social media to protest the removal of the banner by police. The netizens claimed while the banner of Aurangzeb was removed, the banner of Hindutva icon Veer Savarkar was not removed, said a report in India Today online.
After the outrage on social media, Karnataka authorities have increased vigil to monitor the situation. Reacting on the situation, DCP (Law and Order) Rohan Jagadish said that some unidentified people put up banners of Aurangzeb on his birth anniversary on November 3 without seeking permission.
Municipality removed Aurangzeb poster
The DCP said the poster have now been removed by the local municipality. The DCP further stated that a case has been filed and the people responsible for putting up the poster. The police officer also the situation is under control.
