Starting a protest on Saturday, the protesting constables were reportedly demanding a single police system. As per TV9 Telugu, the protesting constables were part of the fourth battalion. They were protesting in the Warangal district of the state, outside the office of the battalion’s commandant. Protesting outside the office of the Nalgonda rural Sub Inspector Saida Babu, constables were found to have raised the ‘SI go back’ slogan. The family members of the constables also organised protests and raised slogans in Ibrahimpatnam, Rangareddy district on Sagar Road.
Wives of constables detained
The wives of police constables were also detained on Friday after they were found protesting outside the BR Ambedkar Secretariat. They were reportedly demanding relief for their husbands from 26 days of continuous work without a break.
What led to protests?
The protesting women claimed that their husbands were treated as labourers at the battalion campus. Expressing concerns over frequent transfers of their husbands, the women called for a single police policy so that police personnel could perform their duties in one place. They also expressed their disappointment over their husbands being forced to stay away from their families for a long period. By organising these protests, the suspended constables and their wives were trying to highlight the poor working conditions of police constables in the Telangana State Special Police (TGSP) and Armed Reserve (AR).
