New Delhi: The Telangana High Court halted the demolition drive initiated by Hyderabad authorities, known as HYDRAA, including the demolition of N Convention Center, owned by Tollywood superstar Nagarjuna Akkineni.
The controversy erupted after HYDRAA launched a crackdown on illegal constructions in the Gandipet FTL and buffer zones, targeting unauthorised structures, including the N Convention Center. Reports surfaced alleging that the convention centre was built on land encroaching upon Tammidi Cheruvu, leading to complaints from local residents.
The demolition was carried out early Saturday morning, with HYDRAA completely razing the convention centre. However, the High Court intervened after the convention centre’s management filed a plea, arguing against the demolition. Justice T. Vinod Kumar issued an interim order, temporarily halting the demolition activities and effectively saving the convention centre.
Nagarjuna himself expressed his displeasure over the “unlawful” demolition, stating on X (formerly Twitter) that he approached the High Court to protect his reputation and ensure that legal processes were followed. His team confirmed that the High Court had granted a stay order, stopping the demolition. “High Court ordered a stay on demolition of structures owned by Nagarjuna, N-Convention. The actor approached the court for the stay order and was granted it. Justice T Vinod Kumar conducted the inquiry. High Court has issued an interim order to stop demolitions,” a statement released by his team reads.
This decision, however, has drawn criticism from BJP MP Raghunandan Rao, who questioned the basis for the stay order, arguing that the convention centre’s legality had been previously challenged and ruled against. He criticised the High Court’s decision as undermining earlier rulings and called for the demolition to proceed.
