Hyderabad: Telangana state government has banned Mayonnaise made from raw eggs for a period of one year, a note from the government said.
The ban on production, storage, and sale, is effective immediately from Wednesday, October 30 under section 18 (1) (f) of Food Safety and Standards Act 2006. It is being prohibited in the view of food poisoning risk associated with raw egg-based mayonnaise.
“As per the observations during enforcement activities and complaints received from the public in the state of Telangana, Mayonnaise made from raw-eggs is suspected to be a cause of food poisoning in several incidents in the last few months,” a notification issued by the food safety department read.
Mayo is a thick, creamy sauce made by emulsifying egg yolks with oil, often flavoured with lemon juice or vinegar. It is commonly used as a dressing in salads, sandwiches, salads, appetizers, shawarmas among others.

This comes in the background of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) launching an inspection drive at momo stalls across the city after a recent case of food poisoning.
A 33-year-old woman died and 50 others fell sick and were hospitalised after consuming momos at a stall named WOW Hot Momos and Delhi Hot Momos in Nandi nagar, Banjara Hills area of the city.
