Edo: A 16-year-old girl named Aisha Suleiman has been arrested in Edo State, Nigeria, on suspicion of poisoning her ex-boyfriend and four others in a tragic event that has captured widespread attention. According to reports, Aisha allegedly poisoned a pepper soup meal intended for her ex-boyfriend, which was also consumed by his current girlfriend and friends, leading to five deaths.
According to reports from the Daily Star, the incident took place on October 26, 2024, in the Afashio community of Uzairue. The victims include 19-year-old Emmanuel Elogie, his girlfriend Ada Samuel and friends Nurudeen, Samuel Ayegwalo and Jeffrey Ayegwalo, all of whom were found unresponsive in a flat. Emmanuel’s father Elogie Ezekiel found the bodies the next morning.
Police spokesperson SP Moses Joel Iyamu confirmed the details of the case, saying, “He found Nurudeen’s lifeless body in the corridor and then discovered Emmanuel and Ada on the bed, with the other two victims in the sitting room.”
Locals attempt mob justice
After the incident, locals tried to enact mob justice on the suspect. SP Iyamu said that “operatives from the Jattu Division received alerts about the impending lynching. They swiftly intervened, rescuing her and transferring the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a comprehensive investigation.”
Police vows thorough probe
Commissioner of Police CP Umoru Peter Ozigi reassured the public that a thorough investigation would be conducted, highlighting the need for lawful justice. “We will leave no stone unturned to ascertain the cause of these young people’s deaths and ensure justice is served,” he said. Meanwhile, unverified videos related to the incident have begun circulating on social media.
