Chennai: Tamil Nadu’s educational institutions have excelled in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, with multiple institutions featuring in the top 100 ranking list of Indian educational institutions. Notably, the Indian Institute of Technology, (IIT Madras) topped in the overall category for the sixtth consecutive year, while it has has topped in the engineering category for the 9th year in a row.
Here’s the list of Tamil Nadu institutions from various catagory finds places in the top 100 institues in the country,

Medical colleges category
In the all-India ranking of medical colleges, Vellore Christian Medical College (CMC) has been ranked 3rd and Puducherry JIPMAR is ranked 5th. In the national rankings, Anna University has suffered setback this year in two categories: overall nationally best institute and best engineering college. Anna University, which was ranked 18th last year in the category of best colleges at the national level, has moved to the 20th position this year. Similarly, in the category of Best Engineering Colleges, Anna University, which was ranked 13th last year, has slipped one place to rank 14th this year. Similarly, in the Best Universities category, Anna University, which was ranked 14th last year, has improved by 1 place to rank 13th this year. At the same time, Anna University has been ranked first in the Best State University category.
Arts and Science colleges category
Chennai Nandanam College, which has been operating for more than 50 years, has been ranked among the Government Men’s Arts and Science Colleges. Among the 3, 371 Arts and science colleges across the country, Nandanam Government Arts College in Chennai is ranked between 200 and 300. This is the first time that Nandanam Government College of Arts and Sciences has been ranked in the national ranking since the introduction of the national ranking.
Coimbatore PSGR Krishnammal College for Girls is ranked 7th and Loyola College Chennai is ranked 8th in this ranking list. Coimbatore PSG College of Arts and Science has secured the 11th position and Chennai Presidency College has secured the 13th position. Madras Christian College is ranked 14th followed by Thiagarajar College Madurai at 15th. St. Joseph’s College in Trichy is ranked 25th. Tuticorin VOC College is ranked 28th and Stella Maris College for Girls, Chennai is ranked 30th. Bishop Hepper College, Trichy is ranked 33rd, St. Xavier’s College, Palayangottai is ranked 36th, Sri Krishna College of Arts, Coimbatore is ranked 37th. Trichy Holycross College is ranked 41st, Marthandam Neshamani Memorial Christian College is ranked 42nd, Perambalur Dhanalakshmi Srinivasan College is ranked 44th and Secret Heart College Tirupattur is ranked 47th. Kongunadu College of Arts and Science, Coimbatore is ranked 52nd. Madurai American College ranked 54th. Sri Ramakrishna College, Coimbatore is ranked 56th in this ranking list.
Similarly, Trichy Jamal Mohammed College, Sivakasi Ayya Nadar Janaki Ammal College, Coimbatore Government Arts College, Chennai Girls Christian College, Chennai Queen Mary College, Chennai School of Social Work, Coimbatore Dr. NGP College of Arts and Science, Karaikudi Alagappa Government Arts Colleges are in top 75.
