Salem, Tamil Nadu: A chilling murder case has come to light in Salem, where a rotten body was discovered in a suitcase under an unmanned bridge on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway. The investigation led police to arrest an IT couple, Abinesh Sahu and Ashwinpattil, from Bengaluru, for brutally killing their 15-year-old house help, Sumina.
The incident began on the 30th of last month when locals reported a strong odor emanating from the bridge. Sangakiri police and VAO Jayakumar rushed to the scene, finding the suitcase with Sumina’s body. Her face was covered with a polythene sheet and wrapped in plastic tape.

CCTV footage revealed a suspicious car in the area, leading police to identify the vehicle’s owner, Abinesh Sahu, an IT professional working in Bengaluru. Further investigation showed that Abinesh’s wife, Ashwinpattil, had suddenly disappeared. Police suspected foul play and launched a manhunt.
The couple was tracked down to Bhubaneswar, Odisha, where they were hiding. A special police team apprehended them, and during interrogation, they confessed to the crime.

According to their confession, Sumina was brought to their residence for housework. On the day of the incident, Ashwinpattil brutally beat Sumina after she accidentally slipped and fell while fetching hot water. Abinesh, upon returning home, scolded his wife but did nothing to help the injured girl.
The next day, Ashwinpattil asked Sumina to perform household chores despite her weakened state. Sumina collapsed and died. Fearing arrest, the couple stripped the body, placed it in a suitcase, and dumped it in Salem.
Abinesh’s father, Karthikchandra Sahu, runs an ashram for the destitute in Odisha. The couple has a 5-year-old son and was living in Panganapalli, Panathur, near Bengaluru.
Police are continuing their investigation into this heinous crime, which has sent shockwaves through the community. The arrested couple will face charges for murder and concealment of evidence, police said.
