Pudukottai: In a raid conducted by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) officials at the Balaji Jewelry in Tamil Nadu’s Pudukkottai district, 1,643.36 grams of counterfeit gold jewelry were seized. The jewelry was confiscated due to the absence of the BIS hallmark. It has been reported that the value of the seized items exceeds Rs 1 crore.
According to the Gold Jewellery Amendment Act 2023, a law has been enacted that gold jewellery should not be sold without a HUID code. However, despite this, gold jewellery is being sold illegally without a proper HUID code.

The authorities are continuously investigating this matter and in this regard, they conducted an inspection at a jewellery shop in Iluppur, Pudukkottai district. More details awaited.
