Chattogram: Left-arm orthodox spinner Taijul Islam took his second straight five-wicket haul to lead Bangladesh’s fightback but South Africa remained in control of the second Test in Chattogram on Wednesday. The Proteas reached 413/5 at lunch on Day 2 despite Taijul’s sensational spell of bowling in the first session.
Taijul triggered a collapse as the visitors lost three wickets for five runs, slumping from 386/2 to 391/5. The spin sensation ended the session with figures of 5/152.
Taijul claimed eight wickets in the opening Test, which Bangladesh lost by seven wickets.

Taijul triggers a collapse but Proteas remain in control
Wiaan Mulder (12) and Ryan Rickelton (11) held the fort strongly to keep the visitors in a strong position before going to lunch.
Resuming at 307/2, Tony de Zorzi and David Bedingham extended South Africa’s dominance batting without any trouble on a pitch that provided little help to the bowlers.
De Zorzi converted his maiden century to 150 from 235 balls, reaching the landmark by smashing a flighted delivery of Taijul through mid-wicket for a boundary.
Bedingham, who completed his third 50 off 70 balls with a single from Mehidy Hasan, was dismissed on 59.
An over later, de Zorzi was trapped leg-before wicket after failing to miss a straighter delivery, which ended his marathon 269-ball 177-run knock, which included 12 fours and four sixes.
Kyle Verreynne, who hit a century in the first Test, also fell while trying to play a sweep as Taijul trapped him leg-before without scoring, to bag his 14th five-wicket haul in test matches.
