In the letter, Fahad Ahmad pointed out that local activists and residents have expressed deep concerns about the potential for incitement and violence, and therefore, he strongly urges that proactive measures be taken to maintain public peace and harmony.
Fahad Ahmad’s letter has sought cancellation of BJP MLA Nitesh Rane’s rally in Pailipada, Anushkati Nagar constituency, citing concerns about potential hate speech and communal tensions.
New Delhi: Fahad Ahmad, the husband of Bollywood actress Swara Bhaskar and President of Samajwadi Party Yuvjan Saba (Maharashtra State), wrote a letter to top Mumbai cops complaining against BJP MLA Nitesh Rane, who he said has “a history of delivering incendiary speeches”.
The letter had sought cancellation of Rane’s rally in Pailipada, Anushkati Nagar constituency, while citing concerns about potential hate speech and communal tensions.
The letter was addressed to Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mumbai Zone 6, and Senior Inspector, Trombay Police Station.
In the letter, Ahmad pointed out that local activists and residents have expressed deep concerns about the potential for incitement and violence, and therefore, he strongly urges that proactive measures be taken to maintain public peace and harmony.
He added that adequate security should be put in place and sufficient security forces be deployed to maintain law and order. Strict measures should be enforced to prevent any speeches that may incite hatred or violence, he said.
Ahmad pointed out that the Supreme Court rulings have repeatedly stressed that figures with a record of such speeches must be prevented from delivering public addresses in areas prone to unrest.
Ahmad warned that in case of any disturbance, the onus will rest with the authorities. “I trust your office will act promptly to prevent any harm to public peace. I appreciate your immediate attention to this matter and look forward to swift action to protect communal harmony,” he said in the letter.
Meanwhile, authorities assured that necessary measures will be taken to maintain law and order. They added that the situation will remain normal and if any hate speech is made at the event, legal action will be taken against Rane.
