Suzuki will soon be updating the current generation Jimny for the European markets with an electrified powertrain. As a last adieu to the Jimny in the European markets, Suzuki has introduced the Mata edition which is a special edition and will be limited to just 150 units and only exclusive to the Italian market.
The Suzuki Jimny Mata features a host of visual upgrades and add-on accessories. The most distinct feature is the dual-tone paint but its done in a very unique way. The bonnet and A-pillars are done in matte black over the Metallic Siberian Silver base paint. There is a classic Suzuki grille up front, aluminum skid plate, aluminum side skits, black cladding on the doors, mud flaps and a rear spare wheel cover. Suzuki will also supply the Jimny Mata with an additional set of 15-inch wheels for winter tyres.
On the inside, not much has been changed. There is a Pioneer audio system fitted which looks quite after-marketish and it is. It also incorporates a rear parking camera. To differentiate it from other Jimny’s, there is a numbered plaque on the dashboard signifying that it is indeed a special model.
Mechanically the car remains unchanged. In Europe, the Jimny only comes as a three door commercial variant since this version cannot pass the emission tests for passenger vehicles, so there are no rear seats. The engine is a familiar 1.5L K-Series NA petrol unit which produces 103 bhp and 130 Nm of torque and it is paired to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The automatic is not available with the commercial variant of the Jimny.
Suzuki will bring a hybridized version of the Jimny for the European markets in 2025. This will allow it to be sold as a passenger vehicle since it can meet the emission standards. There are also rumors that there will eventually be an all electric variant of the Jimny as well which will be specially be designed for the European markets.
