Noida: Travelers commuting between Faridabad, Noida, and Ghaziabad can look forward to significant improvements in traffic flow as the Public Works Department (PWD) has completed its survey for the Faridabad-Noida-Ghaziabad Expressway (FNG Expressway) project. The new Detailed Project Report (DPR) outlines three potential alignments for the expressway, with construction set to begin on one of these routes pending approval from PWD headquarters.
Following the Diwali festival, the PWD plans to submit the DPR for review. The project is expected to alleviate traffic congestion for approximately 100,000 commuters who travel daily between Ghaziabad, Noida, and Faridabad for work and other activities.
Major hurdle between Noida & Faridabad currently
Currently, the Yamuna River separates Noida and Faridabad, forcing travelers to navigate through Delhi’s congested Kalindi Kunj route to reach their destination. This detour often leads to frustrating delays, with drivers stuck in traffic for hours. Public transport options, such as the metro, are also time-consuming, taking at least an hour to cover the distance.
Approximately six months ago, the PWD appointed the MSV Company from Noida as the consulting agency to create the DPR for the expressway. The agency has now completed its work, providing three alignments for consideration.
Haryana recognise FNG as ‘flagship project’
Recognising the need for urgency, the state government has classified the FNG project as a flagship initiative. Two years ago, Chief Minister Manohar Lal convened a meeting with officials to address delays and expedite the project. As a result, representatives from the Faridabad Metropolitan Development Authority and the PWD visited potential routes and identified a suitable site for a bridge over the Yamuna.
Tentative routes, infrastructure & all you need to know
The PWD’s completed survey outlines a nearly nine-kilometer road in Faridabad. The proposed expressway will start near a private hospital in Sector 88 of Greater Faridabad, pass through Kheri Kalan village, and connect to Lalpur along the banks of the Yamuna. A crucial component of the project includes a 600-meter bridge that will link Faridabad to Noida, with construction costs estimated between 150 to 200 crore rupees. The bridge will feature six lanes, with the governments of Haryana and Uttar Pradesh sharing the financial burden. The respective authorities will also fund the approach roads to connect to the bridge.
PWD Executive Engineer Pradeep Sandhu confirmed, “The survey for the FNG has been completed. The DPR prepared by the consulting agency has identified three routes. The file will soon be sent to the government for approval. Construction will begin on one route after the approval.”
