New Delhi: Tamil actor Suriya relocated to Mumbai with his wife Jyothika and two kids. However, many speculated that relocation would be troublesome in their paradise. Now, the actor finally explained and clarified why did the family moved to Mumbai from Chennai.
Speaking with Hollywood Reporter India, Suriya explained that his wife Jyotika has spent almost 27 years in Chennai with him and his parents and now she needs time to spend with her parents and friends. Jyotika shifted to Chennai when she was just 18-19.
Suriya clears air on separation rumours with Jyotika
Opening up about why the family decided to move to Mumbai from Chennai, Suriya said that his wife-actress Jyotika spent only 18 years in Mumbai and after she moved to Chennai after her wedding with him, she gave up her career, and friends, and relatives and her Bandra lifestyle, adding, “Everything was given up, and she was in Chennai.”
He further explained that whatever a man needs, a woman needs that too. Calling himself a late bloomer, Suriya said that Jyotika needs vacations, her friends, her gym, respect, financial independence and some me time.
Suriya also noted that he was happy to see her growth as an actor. Talking about his kids, he revealed they were a part of IB achool and there just one or two in Chennai but Mumbai has more opportunities for his children and that’s the main reason behind the relocation.
He also said, “Whatever we [men] crave for, she needs them too. Why take away her time from her parents, her lifestyle and what she loves to do. When are we going to do that change? Why is it always me? This is the thought behind the move.”
The Kanguva actor said that he is balancing between Chennai and Mumbai by taking 10 days off every month. He shared that for those 10 days, he doesn’t take work calls but goes on a walk with his daughter to the park or go for a drive. He also added that he enjoys taking his son to basketball.

Meanwhile, on the work front, Suriya will be next seen in Kanguva. He was last seen in Etharkkum Thunindhavan and in a cameo role in Vikram. Jyotika, on the other hand, will be next seen in Dabba Cartel.
