New Delhi: The Supreme Court has agreed to hear a petition seeking re-scheduling of the National Eligibility-Cum-Entrance Test, Postgraduate (NEET-PG) 2024 exams to be conducted from August 11.
A bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud indicated that the petition was listed for hearing on Friday.
NEET PG exam 2024 is conducted for admissions to postgraduate medical courses in government and private colleges in the country. Over two lakh students will be taking the NEET-PG exam this year and the exam will be held in 185 test centres.
What has the petitioner sought?
The petition filed by a NEET- PG aspirant Vishal Soren seeks re-scheduling of the exams on the grounds that he along with other similarly placed candidates have been allotted centres in cities which are highly inconvenient for them to reach and also that there is no clarity on the formula adopted by the National Board of Examinations (NBE) for normalisation of the four set of question papers.
Soren in his petition claims NBE allotted test centres on July 31 to one batch of students, while other batch of students will be allotted centres on August 8. This situation has resulted in non-availability of train tickets as well as hiking of air fares due to dynamic pricing, thereby making it almost impossible for a large number pf students to reach their test centres.
Petition has also raised issue of exam being conducted in two batches
The petition has also raised the issue of the exam being conducted in two batches. Apprehension is expressed in the petition that NBE has not disclosed the formula of normalisation of marks obtained by the students between the two batches.
“There is a likelihood that one batch of candidates may face a more difficult question paper than the other batch, therefore its sought that the formula of normalisation should be disclosed before the conduct of the examination to rule of arbitrariness at a later stage” says the petition.
