The Stellantis group looks to be in deep trouble. They shut down the production of their 500e and Panda models in Europe and now they will be pausing the production of the Dodge Durango and the Grand Cherokee amidst slowed demand. The production will stop from October 28th to November 1 at the Jefferson facility but as seen earlier, this could extend very easily.
This has apparently happened because dealerships across America are sitting on a lot of unsold stock and models from the likes of Alfa Romero have ample supply to last a year. Similarly Jeep saw a decline in their sales of the Grand Cherokee by 12% and the Durango saw a decline of 13%. The Durango is on its last legs and the 2027 model year will be the end of that model. The model needs a desperate update but Dodge is busy selling the last ones as six figure special editions which are not helping sales.
Stellantis also announced that they will be putting out temporary lay offs. Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares said that they are underperforming due to a poor marketing strategy and there were also problems with the Ram production. The company seems to be in serious trouble. They also recently put their Arizona testing grounds for sale to get some assets sorted out. They are looking down to cut down costs and we expect more closures and lay offs in the future if things don’t improve.
The European wing of the company is not doing any better, their have been rumors that Stellantis will let go of some companies which are really struggling to sell cars like Alfa Romeo and Maserati. The all EV Fiat 500e is another great example of the their problems, apparently the demand for EVs was not as much and many people want a petrol powered vehicle.
