New Delhi: Former Jammu and Kashmir chief minister and the PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti in a post on social media platform X linked the devastating wildfires in Los Angeles to the ongoing conflict in Gaza. Mufti in her post wrote that the tragedy in LA highlights the profound grief caused by the loss of homes and lives, drawing parallels to the destruction in Gaza.
Mufti’s post on X read: “The devastation caused by the recent fires in LA is deeply shocking and serves as a stark reminder of the consequences of environmental negligence. However, this tragedy should also prompt reflection on the destruction in Gaza.”
Devastation in Gaza result of deliberate actions
Mufti further added that while the LA wildfires might be seen as a natural disaster, the devastation in Gaza is the result of deliberate actions by what she termed a “rogue Israeli government”.
“The destruction in Gaza stems from the actions of a malevolent Israeli administration, while many countries—and even celebrities in LA—often look on, indifferent or complicit,” she stated.
Mufti criticised global apathy towards the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, saying, “Hopefully, the people witnessing the destruction in LA will gain a deeper understanding of the profound impact when homes and lives are torn apart. This should evoke deeper empathy for the pain experienced in Gaza, where hospitals and refugee camps have been reduced to rubble.”
11 people killed in the wildfires in Los Angeles
Mufti also noted that the wildfires in LA, while tragic, could have been averted through stricter environmental precautions. She added, “This serves as a harsh reminder of the consequences of environmental negligence.”
At least 11 people have been killed in the wildfires in the Los Angeles. The blaze has also destroyed over 10,000 homes. An estimated 40,000 acres have been engulfed by the flames. The ongoing disaster has resulted in billions of dollars in damages.
