Sri Lankan Navy arrests 22 fishermen from Tamil Nadu, seized their boats amid tensions

Chennai: Amid the fishermen from Tamil Nadu protesting against the arrest of fisherfolks by the Sri Lankan Navy, the Navy personnel of the island arrested as many as 22 fishermen from Tuticorin last night has caused a shock among the fishermen.

Sri Lankan Coast Guard apprehends 22 Indian fishermen over “crossing the maritime boundary”

According to local sources, more than 100 fishermen went fishing from Tuticorin yesterday. The Sri Lankan Coast Guard has arrested 22 Tamil Nadu fishermen for alleged violation of crossing the maritime border while they were fishing near Nedundivu. The Lankan Coast Guard also captured 2 boats of the Indian fishermen. The fishermen will be brought to Kangesan Port this morning and will be produced in court.

Fishermen arrest issue: Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister to meet Union Minister Jaishankar in Delhi today

Meanwhile, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Minister Anita Radhakrishnan is scheduled to meet Union External Affairs Minister Jaishankar in Delhi today to discuss the issue arrest of fishermen. Earlier, on the initiative of Tamil Nadu BJP President Annamalai, the fishermen’s organizations had met Union Minister Jaishankar in Delhi yesterday and presented their demands.

It is to be noted that more than 80 Tamil Nadu fishermen have been arrested by Sri Lanka in the last few weeks alone. More than 100 fishing boats have already been seized by Sri Lanka.
