New Delhi: After opposing protests by the BJP and Congress turned into mayhem on Thursday, causing injuries to leaders of both parties, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has now prohibited any kind of protests at Parliament gates
Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has issued strict instructions that no political party, Member of Parliament or groups of members will hold any dharna and demonstration at the building gates of Parliament House, sources said.
The directives were issued on a day when Parliament witnessed rival protests by the BJP-led NDA and the Congress-led INDIA bloc over alleged insults to BR Ambedkar.
The protests escalated into jostling and scuffles, resulting in injuries to two MPs and a woman MP from the BJP accusing Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi of intimidation.
As the row escalated, both parties filed counter-complaints at the Parliament Street police station, accusing the other party of instigating the scuffle and injuring their leaders.
However, the Delhi Police lodged an FIR against Rahul Gandhi under sections 115 (voluntary causing hurt), 117 (voluntary causing grievous hurt), 125 (act of endangering life or personal safety of others), 131 (use of criminal force), 351 (criminal intimidation) and 3(5) (common intention) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
