New Delhi: Hours after Sonam Wanchuk and his followers were detained by the police, Delhi Chief Minister Atishi said she would visit the environment activist on Tuesday. She also slammed the Centre for detaining him and said that stopping Wanchup from the peaceful protest was a dictatorship.
Taking to X on Tuesday she wrote, “Sonam Wangchuk and our 150 Ladakhi brothers and sisters were coming to Delhi peacefully. The police have stopped them. They have been imprisoned in Bawana police station since last night. Is it wrong for Ladakh to demand democratic rights? Is it wrong for Satyagrahis to go to Gandhi Samadhi on 2 October? Stopping Sonam Wangchuk ji is a dictatorship. I will go to Bawana police station to meet him today at 1 pm.”
Wanchuk shared a message on X
Earlier in the day, taking to X, Wanchuk shared a message saying and 150 others from Ladakh were detained by the police at the Singhu border near Delhi. Opposition Leaders Slam Arrest of Wanchuk
Apart frorm Atishi, Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi took called his detention as ‘unacceptable’. Taking to X, he wrote, “ The detention of Sonam Wangchuk ji and hundreds of Ladakhis peacefully marching for environmental and constitutional rights is unacceptable. Why are elderly citizens being detained at Delhi’s border for standing up for Ladakh’s future? Modi ji, like with the farmers, this ‘Chakravyuh’ will be broken, and so will your arrogance. You will have to listen to Ladakh’s voice.”
“Sometimes they stop farmers from coming to Delhi, sometimes they stop people from Ladakh. Is Delhi the property of one person? Delhi is the country’s capital. Everyone has the right to come to Delhi. This is completely wrong. Why are they afraid of unarmed peaceful people?,” former Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal wrote on X.
