Durg: In a shocking incident, a man allegedly killed his grandmother and offered her blood on a Shivling. After this, he also tried to take his own life. The incident reportedly took place, in the Durg district of Chhattisgarh, the police said on Sunday.
Sharing further details, the police said that the incident took place on Saturday evening. It said that the 70-year-old woman Rukmani Goswami was living with her grandson Gulshan (30). There was a house close to the temple where he used to offer prayers.
Accused attacked grandmother at home
According to them, the accused had attacked his grandmother in their home. After killing her, allegedly took her body to the temple and offered prayers. After this he tried to kill himself, sustaining critical injuries.
While the body of the woman was sent for post-mortem, Gulshan was rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment. He is currently being treated at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Raipur. Observing that the case seemed to be an outcome of the superstition, the police said that while the probe is going on in the matter, the case has been registered.
Previous incident
Earlier in June, a 58-year-old man identified as Veeramuthu, was arrested for allegedly killing his infant child due to superstition that the child brought ill luck to the family. The crime took place in the Ariyalur district.
The child was born last month to the accused ‘s daughter Sangeetha and her husband Balamurugan. Veeramuthu reportedly took loans for his daughter’s marriage close to a year ago. His daughter had delivered a baby boy days before the incident.
