New Delhi: Shivdeep Vaman Rao Lande, a prominent IPS officer from the Bihar cadre, has resigned today (19 September). In a Facebook post, he announced that after serving in a government role for 18 years, he is resigning from this position. He said that throughout these years, he has prioritised Bihar above himself and his family and offered an apology if he had made any mistakes during his tenure. He added that although he is resigning from the Indian Police Service, he will continue to reside in Bihar, which will remain his karmabhoomi.
A few days ago, Shivdeep Lande was appointed IG of the Purnia region. He has previously served as SP in Purnia, Araria, and Munge and has also been in charge of Kishanganj and Katihar. During his tenure as SP in these districts, it is said that criminals would flee the area and their traces were effectively erased from these locations.
Restrictions faced
Sources said that Shivdeep Lande faced restrictions in his ability to work freely in Bihar, which led him to go on central deputation for a few years. During this time, he served as Deputy Commissioner of Police in Maharashtra’s Anti-Narcotics Cell and Crime Branch, where he made significant impacts against criminals in Mumbai. After his tenure ended, he returned to Bihar and was appointed DIG of the Saharsa Range. Just 10 days ago, he was promoted to IG of the Purnia Range. His abrupt resignation has caused a stir in the police department.
All about the cop
Shivdeep Lande is a 2006 batch IPS officer from the Bihar cadre. Originally from Parsa village in Akola district of Maharashtra, he comes from a humble farming family and was occasionally seen farming in his village during holidays. Speculation about his resignation had been circulating for some time, with many anticipating that he might return to Maharashtra after stepping down. However, by stating his intention to stay in Bihar, he has left people wondering about his future plans in the state. This move is particularly notable given that several IPS officers have previously left Bihar.
