Mumbai: Shiv Sena leader and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde went off the script during the oath-taking script on Thursday leaving Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and others red-faced. Notably, one is not allowed to go off the official script during the oath-taking ceremony. There had been several instances when leaders were asked to take the oath once again because of the single slip.
Last evening, as Governor CP Radhakrishnan started the process, Shine started praising Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, and the people of the state before taking his oath. However, the governor soon asked Shinde to return to the oath ceremony, after which the latter took his oath. While Shinde’s oath was not invalid, it wasn’t as per the protocol either.

New Govt took oath last evening in Maharashtra
Fadnavis took oath as the Chief Minister on Thursday, along with Shinde and NCP leader Ajit Pawar as Deputy Chief Ministers. A host of dignitaries were present on the occasion, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and chief ministers of different states including Himanta Biswa Sarma, Pushkar Singh Dhami, Yogi Adityanath, Nayab Singh Saini, Mohan Majhi, and others.
Shinde vows to extend support to Devendra Fadnis
After the swearing-in, Shinde said he would extend all possible cooperation to Fadnavis and work as a team. “The way Devendra ji and Ajit Dada (Pawar) helped and cooperated with me (when he was the CM), I will extend all possible cooperation and backing to the chief minister. We will work as a team,” PTI quoted him as saying.
He further described his tenure as chief minister as very successful. He also thanked PM Modi and Amit Shah for backing the Mahayuti government in the last two-and-half years.
