New Delhi: Actor-politician and Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut was pulled up by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leadership on Monday after her statement on farmers’ protest sparked a row. The BJP pointed out that it expressed “disagreement” with Ranaut’s remarks.
The Mandi MP’s comments had suggested that the farmers’ protests could have resulted in Bangladesh-like crisis if the government had not taken strong steps.
Following the MP’s remarks, the BJP in an official statement said, “The statement made by BJP MP Kangana Ranaut in the context of the farmers’ movement is not the opinion of the party. BJP disagrees with the statement made by Kangana Ranaut. On behalf of the party, Kangana Ranaut is neither permitted nor authorised to make statements on party policy issues.”
It added: “The BJP has directed Ms Ranaut to refrain from making such statements in the future. The Bharatiya Janata Party is committed to following the principles of ‘Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas and Sabka Prayas’ and social harmony.”

What did Kangana Ranaut say?
“Bangladesh-like anarchy could have happened in India also like in the name of Farmers protest. Outside forces are planning to destroy us with the help of insiders. If it hadn’t been the foresight of our leadership they would have succeeded,” Kangana Ranaut was heard saying in a video shared on X.
“What happened in Bangladesh could have easily happened here too. There is a conspiracy by foreign powers and these filmy people thrive on it,” Kangana alleged.
Some time back, the Mandi MP had been advised by BJP leaders in Haryana and Punjab to desist from making controversial remarks. “It is not Kangana’s department to speak on farmers, Kangana’s statement is personal. PM Modi and the BJP are farmer-friendly. The Opposition parties are working against us and Kangana’s statement is doing the same. She should not make such statements, on sensitive or religious issues, religious organisations,” Punjab BJP leader Harjit Grewal reportedly said. Congress leader Randeep Surjewala also reacted to Ranaut’s comments. He asked the BJP MP sarcastically to “get well soon”.
