New Delhi: Sending shockwaves throughout the music industry, legendary singer Sharda Sinha passed away on Tuesday (November 5, 2024) at a hospital in New Delhi. Early on Wednesday (November 6, 2024), her mortal remains arrived at Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport in the national capital.
Her son Anshuman Sinha stated that the last rites of the Padma Bhushan recipient will be held in Patna as his father was also cremated there. Sharda’s body is expected to arrive in the city around 9:40 am for her final rituals.

BJP MP Manoj Tiwari told news agency ANI that he had spoken with the Bihar government about Sharda’s tragic passing and confirmed that her last rites will be conducted with honours. “May God give strength to her family and all the people who love her,” he added.
Cause of Sharda Sinha’s death
For the unversed, Sharda lost her battle with cancer at the age of 72. She had been undergoing treatment for multiple myeloma, a type of blood cancer, at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS)-Delhi. Sharda reportedly took her last breath at 9:20 pm due to refractory shock resulting from septicemia.
Since 2017, she had been battling multiple myeloma. In October 2024, she was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Institute Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH), the cancer institute of AIIMS, where she was on ventilator support following a health complication.

Born in Supaul, Sharda was well known in her native state and parts of eastern Uttar Pradesh for her folk songs performed on occasions such as Chhath Puja and weddings. She was encouraged by friends and well-wishers to pursue her passion for singing during her early years.
