New Delhi: Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SCP) leader Sharad Pawar has come out in support of West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee saying she has the capability to lead INDIA alliance.
Pawar said Mamata Banerjee is a prominent national leader and the representatives she sends to Parliament are dutiful, capable and well aware.
“Some leaders in the alliance are not happy. They want Mamata Banerjee to take charge of INDIA alliance. The Congress has just 10% strike rate as against the BJP. But Manata Banerjee’s strike rate is 70%. Only Mamata is capable to fight against the BJP. Congress must understand this fact,” said TMC MP Kirti Azad.
‘Congress must shed arrogance’
“When all alliance leaders are calling on Mamata Banerjee to take lead, then Congress should not have any problem. It seems Congress is unwilling to shed its arrogance. I feel Congress isn’t able to take along other alliance partners,” Azad added.
Shiv Sena UBT reacts
Meanwhile, Shiv Sena (UBT) has also reacted to the development.
“INDIA block has been constituted to save the constitution. The fight to save constitution will only intensify. There is no doubt that Mamata Banerjee is a big leader. She takes along people with her. She has fought against BJP intensely. Only big INDIA leaders will decide who will lead the alliance,” said Shiv Sena Rajya Sabha MP Priyanka Chaturvedi.
BJP MP Ravi Kishan on Mamata Banerjee’s name
Earlier, BJP MP Ravi Kishan also reacted to proposal of Mamata Banerjee’s name as INDIA alliance leader.
“Mamata Banerjee should take the leadership of INDIA alliance if she feels so. The entire alliance is disintegrated and they all are a bunch of opportunists. Whenever elections are round the corner, they come together and now they are going back,” news portal India.com quoted Ravi Kishan as saying.
