Mumbai: A city court on Thursday remanded a lawyer, arrested from Chhattisgarh for allegedly threatening to kill Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, to four-day police custody till November 18.
The accused was produced before court in Bandra by the Mumbai Police, which sought seven-day custody of the accused for probe into the matter.
Accused was brought to Mumbai on a transit remand
Accused lawyer from Chhattisgarh, Faizan Khan, was arrested by the Mumbai Police from state’s capital city Raipur on November 12 (Tuesday) and he was brought to Mumbai on a transit remand granted by a Chhattisgarh court.
Allegation of threat call being made to Shah Rukh Khan a conspiracy: Accused’s counsel
According to a report from news agency PTI, the lawyers representing the accused submitted before the court that his phone was stolen before the alleged incident. They further argued that the allegation of the threat call being made to the Bolywood superstar from his phone was a conspiracy against their client, as he had earlier complained to the Mumbai Police against Shah Rukh Khan over from his movie ‘Anjaam’ (1994) referring to deer hunting.
The court, after hearing submissions, remanded accused to four-day police custody.
Bandra Police received a call on November 5
A call was received by the Bandra Police station on November 5 and the person speaking on the phone from the other side threatened to kill Shah Rukh Khan, who lives in Bandra, and demanded a ransom of Rs 50 lakh. Following the threat by the caller, the Mumbai Police the security of Shah Rukh Khan’s home in Bandra and registered a case under sections 308(4) (extortion involving threats of death or serious injury) and 351(3)(4) (criminal intimidation) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The caller was later identified as Faizan Khan by the police and traced to Raipur and the police arrested him from there on November 12 after informing the counterparts in the Chhattisgarh Police.
Another Bollywood superstar Salman Khan has also received death threats from the Lawrence Bishnoi gang.
