Krishnagiri: A shocking case of sexual harassment has come to light at a National Cadet Corps (NCC) training camp in Krishnagiri district, where 13 out of 17 female students were allegedly abused by instructors and school staff.
The NCC camp was conducted from August 5 to 9 at a private school near Bargur, where 17 female students were trained by Sivaraman, an funtionary who was removed from the Nam Tamilar Party. However, the camp was conducted without permission from the authorities.
Teaching staff allegedly ingonred students’ complaints
According to the police, the students complained of sexual harassment by Sivaraman and other instructors, but the school principal, Satish Kumar, ignored their complaints and asked them not to escalate the matter.
The police arrested seven people, including Principal Satish Kumar, Principal Wesley, teachers Jennifer, Sakthivel, and Sindhu, Satya, and Subramani, for allegedly not reporting the crime and conducting the camp without permission.
Two accused at large
Sivaraman and another accused, Sudhakar, are still absconding, and a special team has been formed to nab them.
The incident came to light after the victims’ parents lodged a police complaint on Friday night, and the school education department and district child protection unit initiated inquiries the following day.
The police are also investigating whether the accused conducted similar camps in other schools.
