New Delhi: Violence was reported from Jharkhand’s Hazaribagh district on Sunday in a religious ‘Yagya’ event and procession in the Barkatha area. It led to several women sustaining injuries and tensions escalated across the region. Chaos erupted after members of community hurled stones at a Shobha Yatra as the procession passed through the Tarbechwa mosque.
The miscreants set fire to the nearby structures, which resulted into people blocking the GT Road as they were raged by the incident. A swift action was demanded against the miscreants.
Things only got better when a heavy police force was deployed in the area, and then the blockade was given a clearance.
Superintendent of Police (SP) Hazaribargh, Arvind Kumar Singh, made an appeal for a calm situation overall as he confirmed the developments of violence in the region.
“Amid the stone-pelting, some people set fire to straw piles in Jhurjhuri village. We immediately swung into action and sent a police team to bring the situation under control,” he said. “We will spare no one who breaks the law and disturbs the peace.”
On March 26 this year, a similar incident of stone pelting was reported between the two groups in a Mangla Julus procession, which was part of the Ram Navami celebration at Jhanda Chowk in Hazaribagh.
