Bangladesh police have lodged a sedition case against a Hindu leader named Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari and 19 others for allegedly insulting the national flag. It is alleged that Chinmoy Krishna Brahmachari, a leader of Sanatan Jagaran Mancha, hoisted a saffron flag above the Bangladesh national flag.
The case has been filed on Wednesday at Kotwali Police Station New Market area in Chittagong division. The case was filed following a complaint by one Firoz Khan, who named at least 19 people.
‘Derogatory comments against national flag’
The complaint claimed the gathering made derogatory comments against the Bangladesh National Flag and national figures. The complaint also named Lilraj Das Brahmachari, who is the head of International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), reported BD24 online.
In his complaint, Feroz said that the act by the accused is tantamount to undermining the nation’s peace and integrity and sought appropriate legal actions be regarding the matter.
He said evidence, including names, addresses, photos, and other details, has been collected from social media and other sources to support the complaint.
Two accused arrested so far
Police said have they already arrested two people named in the FIR. The BD24 reported that the student activists had hoisted Bangladesh national flag at the New Market Square after Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina was ousted from power.
The report further said stated that a saffron flag was allegedly placed above the Bangladeshi flag by members of Bangladesh Sanatani Jagaran Mancha during a rally in Laldighi field.
The rally by Hindu outfit that attracted a good number of people, also called for a Long March to Dhaka demanding safeguarding of minority rights in the country.
