SC to hear Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal’s bail plea: Major timeline in excise police case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is slated to hear the bail plea of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in excise policy case today. The bench headed by Justice Surya Kant will pronounce the verdict. The bench had earlier reserved the verdict on September 5. He was arrested by the ED in the case on March 21 last year . Same year, he was arrested in a corruption case related to the scam case by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Timeline of the case and his arrested

November 2021: Delhi Govt announces news excise policy.

July 2022: Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena recommends CBI probe in alleged irregularities

August 2022: Cases registered by both ED and CBI

September 2022: Delhi government decides to scrap excise policy.

October 30, 2023: ED sends summons to Delhi CM in the case

November 2, 2023: Kejriwal skips summons and attends a political rally in Madhya Pradesh

December 21, 2023 and January 3, 2024: Two more summons issued to Kejriwal for questioning.

January 18, 2024 and February 2, 2024: Two more summons sent to Delhi CM. He skips both.

February 3, 2024: ED approaches court against Delhi CM for avoiding summonses.

February 7, 2024: Court issues summons to Kejriwal.

February 2024: ED issues summons to Delhi CM on February 19, February 26 and March 4. Kejriwal continues to skip summons for seventh time

March 2024 : Kejriwal gets bail on two complaints filed against him by ED for skipping summonses. He moves Delhi High Court against summons. Court refuses grants him protection, after which he moves top court. Kejriwal arrested on March 21.

April 2024: Delhi Court dismisses Kejriwal’s plea against arrest. He moves Supreme Court challenging order. Samemonth ED tells Supreme Court that Kejriwal was guilty of money laundering.

May 2024: Apex Court granted bail to Kejriwal till June 1. He is asked to surrender again. The CM surrenders on given date

June 2024: Delhi Court reserves order till June 5 on Kejriwal’s interim bail plea.It denied interim bail to Delhi CM. Same months, the court granted him regular bail. However , ED moves Delhi High Court against bail. The CBI latter arrested him on June 26 in connection with the corruption case.
