New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Friday (January 3) refused to entertain a plea filed by Karnataka Congress MLA TD Rajegowda against a plea by a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader making “vague allegations” against him in a petition challenging his win in the state assembly election.
A bench comprising Justice Surya Kant and Justice Ujjal Bhuyan, while dismissing the Congress MLA’s plea, said that there was no reason to entertain his plea at this point of time and can be addressed before the Karnataka High Court.

BJP leader DN Jeevaraja has filed a petition before the High Court challenging Rajegowda’s election from the Sringeri assembly seat in Chikmagalur district during the 2023 assembly polls.
Jeevaraja had levelled some ‘vague allegations’ without any evidence, Rajegowda’s counsel told apex court
Senior advocate Shyam Divan, who appeared for the Congress MLA, told the bench that BJP leader Jeevaraja had levelled some “vague allegations”, such as use of black money, against Rajegowda in the election petition filed in the high court without any evidence.
“Initially, we were also concerned about the vague allegations but the law provides for evidence to be produced during the proceedings,” the top court bench said.
Rajegowda had moved a similar plea last year before apex court
Rajegowda had moved a similar plea last year before the apex court, which had allowed him to raise his objections to the averment made before the High Court at an appropriate stage.
The bench, during the hearing on Friday, told Divan that its earlier order passed on September 27, 2024, took care of concerns raised by Rajegowda and the court would be contradicting its own order if it now entertained his plea and passed directions.
“There is no reason to entertain this (plea by Rajegowda) at this point of time and can be suitably addressed,” the bench said while refusing to entertain the plea by the Congress MLA.
