New Delhi: Sourabh Chandrakar, a juice vendor-turned mastermind of the Rs 6,000 crore fraud of the Mahadev betting app, has been arrested in Dubai and is likely to be extradited to India in the next 10 days after the completion of legal formalities, sources said.
Chandrakar and Ravi Uppal, both promoters of the Mahadev betting app, were detained in Dubai in December last year and have been in custody ever since based on an Interpol-issued arrest warrant in a money laundering and fraud case being probed by India’s Enforcement Directorate (ED).
Sources said legal formalities are almost complete and the extradition process will take place in the next 10 days.
The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed that its investigation into the Mahadev Online Book (MOB) gaming and betting app has revealed the involvement of several high-ranking politicians and bureaucrats from Chhattisgarh, the home state of Chandrakar and Uppal.
According to the federal agency, the MOB app serves as an umbrella syndicate that facilitates illegal betting by providing online platforms for new user enrollment, creating user IDs, and laundering money through a complex network of Benami bank accounts.
