New Delhi: Since the violence in Sambhal, the administration has been consistently taking action against illegal constructions and electricity theft in the area. A similar case has emerged near the residence of Samajwadi Party MP Ziaur Rahman Barq, where the electricity department uncovered over 100 illegal connections during a raid. It has been reported that, apart from houses, stolen electricity was also being used in four mosques.
The district administration, under the leadership of DM Rajendra Pensiya and SP Krishna Bishnoi, conducted a large-scale raid in the Deepa Sarai area of Uttar Pradesh’s Sambhal on Saturday morning.
Offenders found tapping directly into electricity poles
The crackdown exposed over 100 households and four mosques using unauthorised electricity connections. Many offenders were found tapping directly into electricity poles using illegal wires. In some mosques, while electricity meters were installed, they were non-functional, and stolen electricity was being used to power fans, refrigerators, and other appliances.
During inspections at one mosque, the electricity department found 59 fans, a refrigerator, a washing machine, and 25–30 light points running on illegally procured power.
Administration disconnected all illegal connections
The administration immediately disconnected all illegal connections and registered FIRs against the culprits. Penalties will be imposed on those responsible for the theft. Authorities also stated that religious sites like mosques and madrasas found using stolen electricity will face strict legal action.
Meanwhile, bulldozer operations have been initiated in the Deepa Sarai area to address unauthorised constructions. DM Pensiya and SP Bishnoi have vowed to continue their zero-tolerance campaign against illegal activities in the region.
