New Delhi: Prominent author Salman Rushdie’s controversial book ‘The Satanic Verses’ is back in India albeit quietly. The book has made it foray nearly four decades after it was banned in the country by the Indian government.
The book is being sold at Delhi’s Bahrisons Booksellers as part of ‘Limited Stock’. Located at Khan Market, Bahrisons bookstore has informed the book lovers about the sale on their Telegram handle.

Iranian clerics had issued a fatwa (religious edict) banning the controversial book ‘The Satanic Verses’, set in London and Mecca, in 1989.
Brutal attack on Rushdie over controversial novel
Rushdie had received many threats over his controversial novel and in 2022 was stabbed in the head by a 22-year-old Lebanese-American Hadi Matar at the Chautauqua Institution in New York, United States. Rushdie was seriously injured in the head and lost one of his eye. The accused justified the brutal attack claiming the author insulted Islam.
‘The Satanic Verses’ has been one of the most controversial novels written by the India born British author. After the publication of the novel, the global Muslim community was up in arms as they saw the book indulging in blasphemy allegedly targeting Islamic Prophet Muhammed. The book led to violent protests in Muslim and resulted in the killing of dozens of people.
