New Delhi: In a provocative statement, Shiv Sena MLA Sanjay Gaikwad said he would offer Rs 11 lakh to anyone who cuts off Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s tongue. The shocking comment was made after Gandhi’s remarks regarding the potential removal of the reservation system.
Maharashtra BJP president Chandrashekar Bawankule has distanced himself from Gaikwad’s statement, despite the BJP being a key ally in the Shiv Sena-led state government. Bawankule made it clear that he did not support Gaikwad’s comments.
Gaikwad, addressing reporters, criticised Gandhi for his comments during a recent trip abroad. He said that Gandhi expressed a desire to dismantle India’s reservation system. Gaikwad said “Rahul Gandhi revealed the true agenda of Congress by saying he wants to end reservations in India. I’ll reward anyone Rs 11 lakh who cuts off his tongue.”
Gaikwad slams Gandhi’s ‘hypocrisy’
Gaikwad further attacked Gandhi’s stance by referring to historical figures. He said that the Congress party had once defeated Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar in elections and now Gandhi’s words were a betrayal of the people. He cited the struggles of various communities such as the Marathas, Dhangars and OBCs who are currently fighting for reservation rights.
Criticising Gandhi’s alleged hypocrisy, Gaikwad said, “Rahul Gandhi used to wave the Constitution around, accusing BJP of wanting to change it. But it’s actually Congress that intends to regress the country by centuries.”
On Sunday, before Gaikwad, Union Minister and BJP leader Ravneet Singh Bittu had attacked Rahul Gandhi. He called Rahul “number 1 terrorist and said that Rahul Gandhi does not love his country much. “First of all he is not an Indian. He has spent a lot of time outside the country. He goes abroad and says all sorts of things. The country’s security agencies should arrest him and investigate.”
