Gurugram: A Gurugram-based UX designer, Alok Mittal, publicly shared his personal struggles days after Bengaluru techie Atul Subhash’s suicide. Through a series of LinkedIn posts, Mittal accused his wife, who works in an EduTech company in Gurugram, of harassing him with false allegations of dowry and domestic violence. Mittal claimed that he and his wife began living separately just six months after their marriage. Despite this, his wife is now demanding a maintenance of Rs 1.5 lakh per month and Rs 1 crore as compensation.
Alok Mittal married his wife in May 2023 in Delhi. However, shortly after their wedding, Mittal lost his job. The couple later found that they were expecting their first child. Mittal shared in a LinkedIn post that his wife began pressuring him to find a job immediately, even though he was struggling. “After a few days, I got to know that I was going to become a father, but my wife forced me to get a job as soon as possible anywhere in the world,” he wrote.
Victim’s wife asked him to quit job
Mittal secured a job in Bengaluru in November 2023, after five months of job hunting. However, his wife refused to move to Bengaluru with him, citing her pregnancy, and chose to return to her parents’ home. Mittal shared that when he visited Delhi in December 2023 to bring her back to Bengaluru, his wife refused to join him. “She promised to join me later but refused when I came to Delhi in December 2023 to bring her back,” Mittal said.
The situation escalated further when his wife and her family became increasingly aggressive toward Mittal. He claimed that his wife began asking him to quit his job in Bengaluru and he faced threats and abuse from her and her parents. Mittal wrote, “Along with my 73-year-old mother, I faced threats and abuse,” and alleged that his wife had filed false cases against him in both Delhi and Bengaluru.
Victim accuses wife of financial manipulation
In his posts, Mittal also accused his wife of financial manipulation. He claimed that his wife works as at an EduTech firm in Gurugram and earns Rs 80,000 per month. Despite her income, she is demanding a monthly maintenance of Rs 1.5 lakh and Rs 1 crore as compensation. “She promised to join me later but refused when I came to Delhi in December 2023 to bring her back,” Mittal said.
The situation became more complicated when the couple had a 10-month-old son. Mittal claimed that his wife and her family did not allow him to see his son, using the child as a way to hurt him emotionally. “Knowing my son was my weakness, she began using him against me. Whenever I tried to video call to see my son, she declined, saying the child was asleep,” Mittal said. He further said that whenever he missed a call or failed to visit her in Delhi, his wife’s family accused him of abandoning her and the child.
Mittal also revealed that he had repeatedly requested his wife to join him in Bengaluru, at least temporarily, while he tried to find a job in Delhi. However, his wife denied all such requests. “When she realized her manipulations were failing, she filed a false domestic violence case against me,” Mittal said.
Despite the ongoing financial demands and legal battles, Mittal noted that his wife has not yet filed for divorce, as it would not work in her favor. “It’s been 18 months since our marriage, and for the last 13 months, my wife has been living separately,” Mittal said. “If she files for divorce, she’ll get it, and I’ll move on with my life. I’ll remarry, have kids, and build a happy future. She will get less money. Loss ho jayega fir to,” he added, indicating that the divorce would result in a financial loss for her.
