RG Kar rape-murder: ‘Hang him or do whatever you want with him’, says mother in-law of accused

New Delhi: Sanjoy Roy is the accused in the rape-murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

Roy, a Kolkata Police civic volunteer, has been taken into custody. Currently, the CBI has taken over the case from the Kolkata Police. The central probe agency was granted permission to conduct a polygraph test on the accused.

On Monday, the mother-in-law of Sanjoy Roy said that he and her daughter were married for two years…It was Roy’s second marriage. She revealed that Roy beat up her pregnant daughter which caused her miscarriage.

She told ANI, “When she (my daughter) was 3-month pregnant, he caused a miscarriage. He thrashed her. A police complaint was registered for the same. Following this, my daughter continued remaining ill, I bore all her expenses for medicines. Sanjoy was not good.”

However, she declined from speaking about the rape and murder of doctor on August 9. She said, “Hang him or do whatever you want with him. I won’t speak about the crime.”

But the woman added that Roy couldn’t have carried out the crime alone, suggesting the hand of others in the rape-murder. “He could not have done it alone. He doesn’t have the capacity to do it alone,” she told the news agency.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court is set to hear a suo motu case related to the rape-murder of the postgraduate medic.
