New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a charge sheet against Sanjay Roy, prime accused in the rape and murder case of woman doctor at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.

A 31-year-old trainee woman doctor was allegedly raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College when she had gone to sleep in the seminar room of the hospital during a break on August 9. Her body was found with severe injuries in the seminar room later that night.
Kolkata Police arrested Roy on August 10 for his alleged involvement in crime
Roy, who was working as a civic volunteer with the Kolkata Police, was arrested the following day by the Kolkata Police for allegedly committing the crime. The case was earlier being investigated by the Kolkata Police, however, the investigation was later transferred to the CBI by the Calcutta High Court.
Officials told the news agency PTI that the CBI has filed a chargesheet against Roy before a special court in Kolkata and the charge of gang rape has not been mentioned in the chargesheet, indicating that he alone committed the crime.
The central agency has kept the probe open.
High Court transferred probe from Kolkata Police to CBI
The High Court, while hearing a batch of pleas seeking a court-monitored investigation into the case as well as an investigation into the conduct of the hospital authorities, including the role of then RG Kar Medical College and Hospital principal Sandip Ghosh and other officials by a special team of investigating officers, transferred the probe from the Kolkata Police to the CBI. The Supreme Court also took a suo motu cognisance of the incident and is currently seized of the matter.

The CBI has also arrested Ghosh and Abhijit Mondal, former officer in-charge of Tala police station, in connection with the rape and murder of the woman doctor. They were arrested for alleged tampering of evidence and delay in filing of First Information Report (FIR) in the rape and murder of the trainee woman doctor on August 9.
Ghosh has also been arrested by the CBI in alleged financial irregularities at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during his tenure as principal.
