RG Kar rape-murder case: AIIMS doctors call off 11-day stir after Supreme Court’s appeal

New Delhi: Resident doctors at AIIMS hospital in New Delhi on Thursday called off their 11-day strike and protests over the rape and murder of a 31-year-old junior doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Hospital on August 9.

Issuing a statement, the Resident Doctors’ Association (RDA) said they had called off the strike after receiving assurances from the Supreme Court, which on Wednesday appealed to the medical fraternity across the country to “please trust us” and return to duty.

“In the interest of the nation and in the spirit of public service, the RDA (AIIMS) has decided to call off the 11-day strike. This decision comes in response to the appeal and direction of the Supreme Court,” the statement said.
