Kolkata: In the latest and a very shocking revealation made in the RG Kar Medical College rape and murder case, the parents of the victim claimed that the police tried to bribe them. They also said that their daughter did not receive a proper burial, as the police were in a hurry to dispose of the body as quickly as possible. This according to the parents was done so that the case is suppressed and not highlighted much in the media.
The parents of the girl were also made to wait for long, before they could see the body for the first time. The parents had earlier said that they were reportedly made to wait at the police station as their daughter’s body was moved to the morgue for post mortem examination.
Senior Kolkata Police officer offered money: Victim’s father
According to a report in PTI, the father of the girl claimed that after the body of his daughter was handed over to him and the family, a senior police officer offered him money. The father however immediately declined this offer.
On Wednesday night the parents of the girl took part in a protest march at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, along with the junior doctors. They demanded justice for their deceased daughter. Earlier a protest, “Reclaim the Night” was held on Wednesday, where thousands of women marched together, across West Bengal demanding justice for the victim as well as a safe environment for women. On Wednesday night, in a show of solidarity with the doctors and protesters, many homes switched off their lights at around 9 pm and took to the streets with candles in their hands.
Kolkata medical student rape, murder
The PG medical student was raped and killed at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9. The body was discovered in the seminar room of the college. Police had arrested Sanjay Roy for the crime. The arrest was based on CCTV footage obtained by the police and also because a piece of his headphones was found near the victim’s body.
Following the crime, protests had erupted across the country. Doctors were at the forefront of these protests and marches. They were demanding better work conditions and safety for themselves. Several junior doctors had also gone on strike, paralysing the health infrastructure of the country.
In the probe so far, it has been found that Roy first brutally raped the victim and then went on to murder her. The body of the woman bore severe injury marks and the entire act was described as “brutal”. After less than a week of the incident, the case was transferred to the Central Bureau of Investigation.
