New Delhi: Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, Kolkata, has moved the Supreme Court against the order of the Calcutta High Court dismissing his plea to be added as a party to a plea alleging financial irregularities at the medical college during his tenure as principal.
As per the Supreme Court cause list, Ghosh’s plea is listed for hearing on September 6 before a bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud.
Ghosh is currently in CBI custody in alleged financial irregularities case
The High Court on August 23, while hearing a plea by a former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, transferred the case of alleged financial irregularities at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during the tenure of Ghosh from the Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted by the West Bengal government, to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).
The CBI arrested Ghosh in the alleged financial irregularities during his tenure as principal at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and a court on Tuesday remanded him and others to 8-day CBI custody.

Akhtar Ali, the former deputy superintendent of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, had moved the High Court seeking a probe into the alleged financial misconduct at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital during the tenure of Ghosh by the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
The High Court, while transferring the probe to the CBI, dismissed Ghosh’s application to be added as a party to the plea by Ali, held that he was not a necessary party in the matter.
Ali had moved the High Court after the alleged rape and murder of a woman doctor inside the seminar room of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9 sparked nationwide protests.

The High Court transferred the case to the CBI on bunch of pleas seeking a court-monitored investigation of the incident as well as an investigation into the conduct of the hospital authorities, including the role of Ghosh, the then principal of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, and other officials by a special team of investigating officers.
The Supreme Court later took suo motu cognisance of the incident and is currently seized of the matter.
