New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday (September 17) directed Wikipedia to take down name and photo disclosing the identity of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital victim, who was raped and murdered in the seminar room of the institute of the institute on August 9.

A bench comprising Chief Justice of India (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra directed Wikipedia while hearing a suo motu cognisance on the rape and murder of the woman doctor on August 9 in the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital.
“The governing principle is that identity of the victim in rape and murder shall not be disclosed. Wikipedia shall therefore comply with the previous order passed,” the bench said.
The top court earlier had directed to take down name and photo of the victim.
Apex Court directed CBI to take inputs shared by father of the victim
The bench also directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to take the inputs shared by the father of the deceased expressing the concerns regarding the investigation.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, appearing for the CBI, assured the bench that the CBI will maintain contact with the parents of the victim and inform them about the investigation.
The bench also perused the status report filed by the CBI and said that it will not be fair to disclose the leads of CBI as this would only lead to dislocation of the investigation.
The counsel appearing for resident doctors submitted before the court that definite material is with the doctors indicating the presence of persons at the scene of crime and the bench directed that the names will be handed over to the CBI.
Lawyers representing State getting threats of acid attack and rape, West Bengal govt told apex court while urging to stop livestreming
During the hearing, senior advocate Kapil Sibal, who appeared for the West Bengal government, requested the bench to stop the livestreaming of the matter, submitting that lawyers representing the State were getting threats of acid attack and rape.
The bench, however, refused to stop the livestreaming, saying that it is a matter of public interest.
