New Delhi: The parents of the trainee doctor who was raped and murdered in Kolkata last month have launched a scathing indictment of the Kolkata Police, accusing them of attempting to “destroy evidence and obstruct justice” from the very beginning of the case.
Speaking during a massive protest march in Kolkata, the woman’s mother declared, “the government, administration and the police have not cooperated with us since the beginning of the case.” She alleged that the police actively tried to suppress evidence, further fueling the outrage and fueling the ongoing protests in the state and the country.
Mass protest will lead to a fair outcome
The victim’s father, echoed the sentiment, expressing hope that the mass demonstrations across the country, which have become a powerful symbol of the collective anger and demand for justice, will eventually lead to a fair outcome. He appealed for continued support from the public, stating that they are the source of strength for the family.
‘Police offered money’
The parents of the trainee doctor recounted their “harrowing” experience with the police, alleging that they were pressured to cremate their daughter’s body despite their desire for a second postmortem. They also alleged that police officers offered them money to settle the case and deliberately misled the public with inaccurate media statements. “About 300-400 cops surrounded us. We returned home and found some 300 cops were standing outside. They created such a situation that we were forced to cremate her,” her father said.
The incident has sparked a wave of protests, with the medical fraternity leading the charge in demanding justice. The case has also drawn the attention of the Supreme Court, which will hear the case on Monday, with the CBI expected to present its findings.
