‘Representation snatched from people’, Rahul Gandhi bats for J&K statehood

New Delhi: Ahead of the Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi addressed a gathering of party workers, emphasising the need for statehood and criticising the BJP’s ideology. Gandhi assured the crowd that he would always be available to support them.

“The entire benefit that is happening in Jammu and Kashmir is not going to the people of Jammu and Kashmir but to outsiders,” Gandhi said. “We wanted Jammu and Kashmir to be granted statehood before the elections. Now, it’s fine that they held the elections earlier, but we still want Jammu and Kashmir to be given statehood as soon as possible.”

Gandhi praised the party workers for their dedication and bravery in fighting for the Congress ideology, which he said was under attack from the RSS. “You fight for us, and this is a battle of ideologies—the ideology of the Congress party versus the ideology of the RSS,” he said. “When your ideology was under attack, you were carrying the Congress party flag. Many people threw away the flag, but you stood firm, taking lathis, bullets, and insults, but you didn’t step back even an inch. That’s why I call you the lion of the Congress party, ” he added.

Gandhi also criticised the BJP’s ideology, blaming it for spreading unemployment and inflation across the country, including in Jammu. “The BJP’s ideology has spread unemployment across the country. You see it firsthand, and unemployment is increasing in Jammu as well,” he said.

He vowed to continue opposing any illegal bills introduced by the BJP, citing the example of lateral entry, which was canceled due to the Congress party’s efforts. “We confronted them when they tried to introduce lateral entry, and with the help of Adani ji, we stood up and got it canceled. We will continue to cancel any bills they try to pass illegally,” Gandhi said.
