New Delhi: Manchester City star midfielder, Kevin De Bruyne is reportedly eyeing a move to Major League Soccer, and in case there are any concrete proposals coming from any of the American teams, we might just witness the Belgian maestro leave Manchester City after spending 10 seasons with the Sky Blues. A certain City legend, who has been one of their all time best players, has made 388 appearances for them, scoring 103 goals for the club and also providing a mammoth 171 assists over the years.
However, this season has looked rather quiet for the Belgian superstar after he injured his groin early into the season. The Belgian is expected to make his return in the next few days, and he will be ready to perform for City again. The 33 year old is still producing top class performances for Pep Guardiola’s side, and over the years he has proven himself to be a vital figure in the City squad. However, there is no certainty that De Bruyne will be renwing his contract with the Cityzens, as before the MLS rumors were dispelled, he was apparently on personal terms with one Saudi Pro League team.
He was also strongly linked to a move to Saudi Arabia in the summer. But with less than a year left on his City contract, there is still much debate about the Belgian’s future. If you consider these factors, it looks unlikely that the veteran would extend his contract at the Etihad Stadium and may depart after ten seasons, to join MLS.
What next for De Bruyne?

They see the USA as preferable to raise their family in over Saudi Arabia. San Diego FC have offered close to $20M gross per year.

According to reports, De Bruyne is considering a “concrete” offer from San Diego FC, a future Major League Soccer team that plans to join the league in 2025. The 33-year-old reportedly wants to go to the United States, after becoming weary of the “intensity and frenetic pace” of English football. This is a league which is turning out to be the ideal environment for players like Lionel Messi, Lorenzo Insigne, Luis Suarez and many more veterans, in their latter years. De Bruyne might possibly be offered a salary comparable to what he now receives at City by San Diego FC.
Apparently, Michele Lacroix, De Bruyne’s wife, was unable to envision herself and her three children living in Saudi Arabia. Nonetheless, De Bruyne thinks that in the US, they might all coexist in harmony.
Due to a groin injury, De Bruyne has not played since September 18 and will not be available for Wednesday’s Champions League matchup with Sparta Prague. When Pep Guardiola addressed the media this week, he was unable to provide an exact date for the Belgium international’s comeback to City action. As of now, it is clear that Man City’s star midfielder will be focused on his current plans with the team, as he has proven his love for the club over the years, which only seems to be getting better.
