New Delhi: The Karnataka government has moved the Supreme Court challenging the Karnataka High Court order granting bail to Kannada actor Darshan Thoogudeepa and others in the Renukaswamy murder case.
The High Court on December 13 last year granted conditional bail to Darshan, his friend and Kannada actress Pavithra Gowda and other accused persons in the murder case of Renukaswamy.
Darshan, Pavithra and 15 other persons are accused in the murder case
Darshan, Pavithra and 15 other persons are accused in the murder case of 33-year-old Renukaswamy, who is stated to be Darshan’s fan, and the actor was arrested in the murder case on June 11 last year. It has been alleged that Renukaswamy, who hailed from Karnataka’s Chitradurga district, was allegedly tortured to death allegedly by Darshan and other accused persons after the victim was allegedly abducted from his hometown. Darshan was arrested in the case on June 11.
Bengaluru Police filed a chargesheet in the case on September 4
Renukaswamy allegedly made derogatory remarks against actress Pavithra on social media, which allegedly enraged Darshan, allegedly leading to his murder. As per the state police, Pavithra was the “major cause” for Renukaswamy’s murder. Officials have claimed that the investigation into the Renukaswamy murder case has proved that Pavithra instigated other accused, conspired with them, and took part in the crime. The Bengaluru Police had on September 4 last year filed a 3,991-page preliminary charge sheet in the murder case in a court in Bengaluru.
High Court earlier granted six-week interim bail to Darshan on medical grounds
The High Court had earlier on October 30 last year granted six-week interim bail to Darshan on medical grounds to undergo spine surgery at a hospital of his choice. The High court had then directed the actor to submit a report on his health condition, required treatment and follow-up treatment to the court within a week.
