New Delhi: Reacting sharply to actor-politician Kangana Ranaut remarks against radical Sikh preacher Jarnail Singh Bhindranwale, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader and former Union minister Som Parkash asked the Lok Sabha MP from Mandi to desist from making “unnecessary comments” that may hurt the sentiments of the Sikh community.
His response came after Ranaut called Bhindranwale a “terrorist” during a television interview.
In a post on X, Parkash requested the Bollywood actor to maintain “discipline” and avoid statements that could disrupt peace in Punjab.
“Kangana Ranaut must restrain from making unnecessary comments against Sant Jarnail Singh and the Sikh community. Such remarks hurt the feelings of the Sikh community. She must remain in discipline. Nobody should be allowed to disturb peace in Punjab,” he said in the post.

Speaking about her upcoming movie, ‘Emergency’, Ranaut had said that 99 per cent of Punjab’s population doesn’t believe that Bhindranwale was a saint. “He was a terrorist. This is part of our history that has been intentionally hidden,” she said during the interview.
Sikh organisations, including the Shiromani Akali Dal, has alleged that her film misrepresents historical facts and the Sikh community. Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) has shot off a legal notice to the makers of ‘Emergency’, demanding that certain scenes be removed.
Former IAS Jagmohan Singh Raju, who fought the Punjab Assembly elections as a BJP candidate from Amritsar East, has also urged Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) to be “overcautious” and to make sure that Ranaut-starrer Emergency doesn’t have any content that could be construed as hurtful to the Sikh sentiments.
