New Delhi: The first phase of Jharkhand assembly elections is underway. The second phase will be held on November 20, along with the polling for the Maharashtra assembly elections. The crucial bypolls for the nine seats in Uttar Pradesh will also be held on this day.
Voters have to produce Electors Photo Identity Card (EPIC) as identification proof to cast their ballots. If you are unable to produce EPIC, you can carry one of the following alternative photo identity documents for establishing your identity. These include:
1. Passport: It’s an official document that identifies you as a citizen of a particular country.
2. Driving License: It’s an official document issued by either the Regional Transport Authority (RTA) or Regional Transport Office (RTO) of the state in which you reside.
3. Service Identity Card: These cards are issued to employees by Central/State Govt./PSUs/Public Limited Companies.
4. Passbook: This is issued by a bank or post office with an individual’s / account holder’s photo, with a stamp of the particular bank or post office.
5. PAN Card: Permanent Account Number or PAN is a way of identifying various taxpayers in the country. It is a 10-digit unique identification alphanumeric number.
6. Smart Card: This is issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour
7. MNREGA Job Card: It’s a document issued to an applicant after he or she is registered with the local Gram Panchayat under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA) scheme.
8. Health Insurance Smart Card: This is issued under the scheme of Ministry of Labour
9. Pension Document: This document should also bear your photo.
10. Official Identity Card: This is issued to MPs/MLAs/MLCs
11. Aadhar Card: Aadhaar is a 12-digit individual identification number which is proof of identity and proof of address for residents of India.
Remember that photo voter slip can be used for guidance but not as an identity proof at the polling stations.
