New Delhi: While speaking during the Motion of Thanks to President, Prime Minister Narendra Modi took a dig at opposition and advised it to read US foreign policy expert Bruce Reidel’s book ‘JFK’s Forgotten Crises’ if they want to do something in foreign policy. The book deals with diplomatic and foreign policy ups and down during John F Kennedy’s tenure as US President.
PM Modi’s dig came as he invoked late PM Jawahar Lal Nehru and the dealings with the then US government. PM Modi’s suggestion to read Reidel’s book also came in the backdrop of Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi’s questions over foreign policy in Parliament on Monday when he alleged External Affairs Minister S Jai Shanker was sent to US to ‘beg’ for an invite for PM Modi for Donald Trump’s inauguration.
‘Nehru played games’
During his address, PM Modi said the book has detailed information about how ‘Nehru played games with the country’s security’.
“If someone is interested in understanding foreign policy, then he should read ‘JFK’s Forgotten Crisis’. The book is written by a US foreign policy expert. The book mentions India’s first PM, who also held the foreign ministry portfolio. The book contains his conversation with late US President JFK when the country was dealing with a emergency situation. The book details the games were played in the name of foreign policy,” PM Modi said during his address in the Parliament.
